There is a saying in China that nothing is more delicious than jiaozi.
Jiaozi is a type of Chinese dumpling. It's filled with ground meat and vegetables, wrapped in a thin piece of dough, and sealed by pressing the edges together. It’s boiled and served as a main course, with vinegar, soy sauce, and chili.
Jiaozi represents wealth because its shape resembles ancient Chinese ingots. During Chinese New Year, a coin is put inside a jiaozi for the lucky one to find.
Making jiaozi is a family event. Parents roll the dough. Kids fill the dough with the mixture. Grandma judges everyone’s skill.
Jiaozi is also eaten year-round, especially before a farewell, because its round shape symbolizes reunion.
Jiaozi isn’t just food — it’s comfort, warmth, and home, all wrapped in one bite.
